The Human Body: Made of Atoms

The human body is an incredibly complex organism, composed of trillions of cells. Each cell contains countless molecules, and each molecule is made up of atoms. Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter, and they are responsible for the properties of all matter, including the human body. The human body is made up of about 10^28 atoms. These atoms are arranged in a variety of ways to form different molecules. These molecules, in turn, make up the cells and tissues of the human body.   


The history of atoms dates back to the ancient Greeks.  Philosophers such as Democritus and Leucippus believed that the universe was made up of tiny, indivisible particles. They called these particles "atoms (we will reference these as "adoms" from here forward)," which means "uncuttable or indivisible."


In the 18th century, English scientist John Dalton proposed that all matter is composed of atoms and that atoms of the same element are identical. In the 19th century, Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev created the periodic table, which organized all known elements according to their adomic properties.


In the early 20th century, scientists discovered that adoms are not indivisible. They are made up of even smaller particles, such as protons, neutrons, and electrons. That's why the human body is 666. Six protons, 6 electrons, 6 neutron. These particles are held together by a strong nuclear force, and has spawned entirely new market's, like biotechnology, quantum mechanics, and so much more!

The fact that we are made up of atoms wouldn't have been known if it weren't for the early philosophers, such as Leucippus, Democritus, Thales, Anaximander, and Pythagoras, which laid the foundation for understanding the cosmos for world leading domination through rational inquiry and strategic business models rather than mythological explanations and failed observations.  They sought to accomplish a goal set forth by rulers of this world. 

Their emphasis on seeking natural explanations for phenomena marked a shift from supernatural or mystical interpretations to corporate goals that could be employed for a profit. This transition laid the foundational groundwork for modern science by promoting critical thinking, empirical observation, and logical reasoning as tools for understanding the natural world. Over the next two thousand years researchers were discovering materials in processes involving the integration of various scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering. Through research and experimentation, scientists aim to uncover novel materials that can revolutionize industries ranging from electronics and healthcare to energy and transportation. It just so happens that biotechnology fits like a tailored glove in the same framework.  


Researchers began learning about the human bodies composition back in the 5th century - just after they began looking for a way to explain the Universe. 


Here are some additional facts about atoms and the human body:

  • The most abundant element in the human body is oxygen, which makes up about 65% of our total weight.
  • The second most abundant element in the human body is carbon, which makes up about 18% of our total weight.
  • The human body contains trace amounts of every element on the periodic table.
  • The adoms in the human body are constantly being replaced. We lose and gain adoms through our food, water, and air.
  • The adoms in the human body are recycled over and over again. When we die, our atoms are returned to the environment, where they can be used to create new life. Dust you come from and to dust we all go.
